Center For Innovative Technology

The intent of the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) is to transfer technology from the laboratory to the work bench. The goal of the program is to apply technology to improve the performance of small and medium sized businesses by making technological developments available though licensing and cooperative ventures. Chamber of Commerce


The Radford Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1944 to provide leadership, to help solve problems facing the community and to serve as a force for constructive change. It is a non-profit action oriented organization serving as the leading spokesman for business in Radford.

It dispenses information concerning all aspects of the community and acts as a catalyst in civic activities. The Radford Chamber of Commerce is a major force in promoting the community and in improving the quality of life. For more information call (540) 639-2202.
 
City of Radford Department of Economic Development
 
The Office of Economic Development was created in 1985 to assist existing and prospective business and industry and to promote the general economy of the City of Radford. The City maintains a full-time office which is available to assist business and industrial prospects with site locations and contact information. For more information call (540) 731-3623.

Main Street Program

The Main Street Program is an economic and architectural revitalization program designed for the commercial districts of small towns. Through the use of promotional activities, retail events, image development, public improvements and design awareness, Main Street attempts to bring about revitalization of the past vitality of the business district. In cooperation with lending institutions loans are made available at favorable interest rates for building renovation and inventories. New River Valley Development Corporation
The New River Valley Development Corporation (NRVDC) was formed in 1983 to serve existing and prospective small businesses located within the New River Valley Planning District. The purpose of the NRVDC is the creation or retention of local jobs by assisting qualified small businesses in obtaining long term financing for the acquisition of fixed assets, including land, buildings, and machinery and equipment. New River Valley Planning District Commission


The New River Planning District Commission (PDC) was organized in 1969 to promote the orderly development of the political subdivisions of the New River Valley including Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski Counties, the City of Radford and the Towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg. Among their many resources and a Comprehensive Work Program are financial and small business assistance, extensive census data, and specific community characteristics. Small Business Institute, Radford University

The Small Business Institute (SBI) at Radford University was organized in 1987 under the joint sponsorship of the University and the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBI provides an opportunity for small businesses to receive assistance from qualified senior level and graduate students under the direction of Senior Faculty in completing business related projects. Help is available for projects such as completing a business plan, market research studies, designing accounting systems, planning inventories, personnel projects, financial analysis, etc. For information call the Director of the SBI at (540)831-5075 or(540) 831-5481.

SCORE


SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives Association, is sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and provides free, confidential counseling to entrepreneurs who want to start a business and small businesses that need help. Nationwide, SCORE has 380 chapter locations and additional satellite locations manned by 13,000 experienced business professionals. Locally, the Roanoke Chapter (540) 982-4334; the Radford Satellite, 639-2202; and the Blacksburg Satellite, (540) 552-4061 are ready to provide service.

Small Business Development Center

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is sponsored by both public and private organizations and serves small business by providing business related management and consulting services. The SBDC provides workshops and seminars on business related topics for a nominal fee. The SBDC also helps small businesses in making loan applications and in finding sources of funding.
